6 January

Epiphany. They day that the Magi arrived bringing gifts for the baby Jesus. Gold for a King, Frankincense for worship and Myrrh for his death. Prophetic gifts, albeit rather unusual ones.

Today you are going to give yourself a gift. Go outside and find yourself a pebble, a nice rounded one that will fit in the palm of your hand. You may already have one from a walk along a beach or a river. You may have to take a walk around a park in order to find one, in which case enjoy the fresh air and keep your eyes open for a pebble that is calling to you. If you happen to have a shop near you that sells crystals you might find a pretty tumbled stone that catches your eye or a thumb stone, a stone with a gentle dent in the middle in which your thumb neatly fits.

Take your stone and put it beside your bed, somewhere where you will see it every night before you go to sleep. Tonight take you stone in your hand and think over all the good things that have happened during the course of the day, think of as many as you can. Then chose the very best of all of them and holding your stone in your hand give thanks for that one wonderful thing that happened to you today.

Then as you go to sleep your mind is filled, not with thoughts about tax returns or car repairs but with thoughts of happiness and gratitude. The more you do this the easier it becomes to see all the good things in your life, and should times become hard, take your stone and remember all the beautiful memories it holds for you.

  1. I’m always on the lookout for stones that call out to me. Especially ones on the beach. Next one I find I’ll breathe gratitude into. Such a lovely idea.
